Happy 87th Birthday Grandma

We all have looked to you for strength.


From your home in Syria

To the banks of the Jordan river
To a small town in California, skyping with your Grandson all the way in China.

You gave me my love for urban gardening.


You taught me how to be a good host. To make almost every Armenian meal I know and the
need to incessantly ask my guests if they are hungry.
 And the ability to feed them even when they say they aren't.


You gave me the gift of resiliency, and thick skin when the tide of life comes in stronger than we think we can handle.
Happy Birthday Grandma, you're one of the reasons we are who we are, today.
