I love the spring. We have been spending most of our days outside, cleaning up our yard. Take a look at Jake's crazy tough guy beard. Holy Moly.
I spent the good part of our morning cleaning out all the unnecessary toys and reclaimed my blanket box. She claims this is her new "nest".
I have been rearranging my house. I was so happy to finally find a spot for this old table. My grandpa was an antique dealer in his day, so I have many of his salvaged (and unfinished) pieces.
I think she's a natural :)
Lots of hours at the local coffee shop plugging away at homework. We recently took the queen bed out of the guest room and put Jake's old twin in hopes to create a sufficient study place for me. I am easily distracted in our living room dining area. And if I try to study our bedroom, it seems like naps get the best of me.
We have SO MUCH LETTUCE! Want some? I have been eating a salad every day this week.
The day's harvest. Broccoli and crisp fresh green lettuce. YUM.
Lunch from our bounty. Yes. That's Violet standing on the table. She seems to have taken creative control.
Jake is not a leisurely person. I don't know how I convinced him to go down town to my favorite spot this morning but I did. We ran into our friend Jordan who lives in the lofts next door. He even said, "This is not like you guys to be out." Then we proceeded to make fun of my dear husband, "don't you have a chicken coop to build? Where is your pick axe? You're not living if your not working.." Glad we sneak away from the yard just for a bit.
We made our way to the Yoshi Now warehouse. Yoshi Now is an AMAZING second hand store in down town Fresno. Yoshi is kind enough to open it up to the public. It's probably the size of two football fields of every imaginable vintage item you could think of. I was in heaven.
want.
We walked away with a large sun hat (for Jake) and office chair, and this blue beauty all for 25 dollars. You just can't go wrong at Yoshi now.
Hope you are enjoying the weekend, friends. Until next time.
You don't sit still in Shafter. Even in 110 degree heat.
Target practicing (yes my target it Jake)
The lawn just HAD to be cut.
I haven't felt this hot since I was pregnant. A clingy toddler can help you remember that.
My hair in its natural state. Yikes.
As the sun started to set, we decided to take a bike ride through the almond and cherry orchards. We all excepted a wave of coolness that usually accompanies us through the water soaked crops. We were in no such luck, a cloud of thick, sticky, heavy water filled heat followed us on our 5 mile ride. The faster we went, the more I felt I was being swallowed by the damp air.
The heat of the valley. It wouldn't be home with out it.
Our Friday night was spent celebrating the engagement of our two friends Jordan and Channelle. It was by far one of the best surprise engagements I have ever been a part of and probably the best night out I have had since Violet was born.
We all met at Fresno's fabulous Fulton 55 to see the city's own Fierce Creatures.
The plan was, toward the near end of the set, Jordan would get up on stage and heroically his love for Channelle. After she of course, would tearfully say yes, the two would be escorted to the near by Iron Bird Lofts for a surprise party with all those near and dear to their heart.
Things couldn't gone better than they did. Nikki and I were front and center holding back tears, reminiscing of getting engaged to our husbands (apparently we are old veterans now) and trying TRYING not to give away the surprise.
We succeeded, and so did they.
Jordan and Channelle, ringing in their love by rocking out with the band, They're so cool.
See the video below and TELL me you don't get all warm and mushy inside.
I had to add this picture. This is the FIRST TIME Nikki and I have been out together AT NIGHT, past 12 AM, TOGETHER, since we had our babies. This night goes down in the books.
Saturday came too fast the next day, Jake and I decided to take much needed detoxifying hike not too far from our house.
Not to mention we needed to see the spring's wildflower selection before the heat dried them up.
Our hike didn't last very long. Violet's patience was low that day. It's amazing how we still have moments where we need to remind ourselves that life with children is DIFFERENT. Hikes may be cut short, but at least we were out there, a 1.5 mile hike is better is better than no hike at all. RIGHT? (by the way feel free to giggle and violet's crazy face in this picture)
the latter part of the trip took much longer than anticipated. Violet wanted to walk by herself. And really, who are we to stop her?
Easter Sunday was spent at my Aunts house. Violet has become an avid egg hunter. She even asked me later that day to hide eggs at our house. "mama? EGG? EGG? EGGGG??"
All the cousins under 5. Deran's face (the one with the tie) is priceless.
